My father especially loves my songs and encouraged me to record in the studio-davis KING

Davis King had always wanted to be a musician but he found himself going on to read medicine but he spent his days as a medical student recording in the studio.

Here is our interview with up and coming musician, davis King:

GBEMILEKE ALBUM ART

What are your songs about?

My songs are gospel. I have a specific mandate to teach people through my music as inspired by God.

How did you get started?

I grew up listening to my father’s playlist, which contained Jackson Five, Smokey Robinson, Isaac Hayes, Bob Marley and a whole lot more. I’ve always wanted to be a musician but found myself going on to read medicine. I graduated as a medical doctor in 2007. I however spent my days as a medical student recording in the studio and appearing at shows, travelling round the country.

What was your first song about?

I sincerely can’t remember. It is lost somewhere but the second one was titled ‘choices’. God gives us the ability to make choices as humans but in the end, its best to stick with his perfect plan.

What were you doing before you got into the music industry?

I am a medical doctor.

What did your family do to encourage you?

My father especially loves my songs and encouraged me to record in the studio. He would play my songs for visitors to listen.

Who else in your family sings?

davis king1

Nobody

How many songs have you released so far?

3 songs

How long have you been performing?

I’ve been performing since about 9 yrs of age in church.

What do you think about when you’re performing?

I forget everything in the world and it is only my song that stays on my mind.

Is there an artist that you would like to collaborate with?

I just searched within myself and funnily, yes, the artist is R Kelly….I wonder why

Have you ever entered into any contest to enhance your career?

No.

What do you think your biggest break has been so far in your musical career?

Meeting my producer is what I call my biggest break. Every artist needs that right producer that expresses his song perfectly, mine is Godson.

If you had the opportunity to change something about the music industry what would it be?

The public address system (the speakers, the feedbacks, microphones, the mixers). We need to get it right, without that, our audience can’t be satisfied.

Tell us about your most embarrassing moment?

My most embarrassing moment as a singer was the day i sang in a campus fellowship way back and I couldn’t harmonize my vocals with the instruments because I didn’t rehearse well before going on stage…. I felt terrible that day but interestingly, as I condemned my performance, people passed compliments instead. They obviously didn’t notice. Well, lesson learnt, never will it happen again!

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?

I would probably remain a medical doctor.

What kind of music do you listen to?

All sorts from all genres and across all generations. My appetite for music is extremely large.

 Do you play any instruments?

I do. I play the piano but not professionally.

What else can we expect from you in the future?

A love song for this valentine, written for my wife.
