Call For Applications: Pact Zollverein Residencies 2017, Deadline: 5th December, 2016

folio-baresiRunning all year round since 2002, the residency programme is at the heart of PACT Zollverein’s day to day work. Open to professional artists from home and abroad who work in the areas of dance, performance, media arts or music and closely linked to PACT’s two other core strands of activity in presenting work and facilitating research and development, the programme is a key element in PACT Zollverein’s profile as an Artists’ House supporting lively exchange between practice and theory. While occupying their own designated space and essentially working independently, residents may choose to take advantage of various kinds of production support such as dramaturgy, technical assistance, project management as well as press and publicity.

A residency can incorporate the following:

– Studio space [from 63 to 173 sq.m.]

– Local accommodation [maximum 6 people]

– Weekly grant allowance for all of the residency project participants [maximum group of 6 people]

– Travel costs covering one journey only per participant to and from PACT Zollverein [subject to prior agreement]

– Technical equipment [by arrangement and subject to availability]

– Stage rehearsals with professional technical supervision and support [by arrangement and subject to availability]

Application Deadline for residencies from August to December 2017 will be Monday, 5th of December 2016 at 5pm.

Call for Application: “Short Story Day Africa Prize”, Theme: Migrations, Deadline: 31st July, 2016

ssda-prize-submissions-image_20150208The Short Story Day Africa Prize is an African writing prize open to African citizens, permanent residents of African countries, or second generation Africans living in the diaspora only. Unpublished works between 3000-5000 words in response to the theme are eligible for the prize.

1st prize R10 000 [approx US$500] 

2nd prize R2 000 [approx US$125]

3rd prize R1 000 [approx US$60]

In addition three emerging writers will receive a 20 week online creative writing course. These will be selected from the long list or slush pile.

The twenty-one long listed stories will be published in the annual Short Story Day Africa anthology, and selected stories entered into The Caine Prize for African Writing [£10 000].

Submission close 31st July, 2016.

Call for Application: Talents Durban – Degrees of Seperation, Connecting People And Story. Deadline: 6th May 2016

berlinThis year, Talents Durban opens submissions to 15 writers and directors with fiction,IMG-20160321-WA0001 documentary and hybrid projects in development. For the first time, the newly re-conceptualized initiative includes projects of all media formats, such as film, television series, web series and mobile content. In order to build on sustainable networks, the call-for-entry is also aimed at alumni of Talents Durban who participated in any previous editions of the programme.

Talents Durban will take place from 17 – 21 June as part of the 37th Durban International Film Festival [16 – 26 June].

The overall 20 selected participants from across Africa will be given a chance to forge relationships in an intensive five day programme of one-on project consultation and industry networking activities with renowned mentors and professionals in the fields of production and distribution.

Call for Application: Lagos-Berlin Residency Program, Deadline: 30th April, 2016

zku banneIn the context of its partnership with the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U) in Berlin, the cultural office of local government of Wedding/Berlin and SAVVY Contemporary art space Berlin, Goethe Institut Nigeria offers a three months residency for artists and practitioners from Nigeria, interested in cross-disciplinary theory and practice dealing with ‘the city’.

The residency offers a ‘living & work space’: furnished studio-apartments [half of which have private bathrooms], communal facilities, a platform open for public events, lectures, discussions, screenings, performances and presentations.

Call for Applications: Arthouse Foundation Artist Residencies 2016

arthouseThis call for applications is open to local and international visual artists and curators who which to engage a new artistic project within the city of Lagos. With three-month sessions in the Spring and Fall, the ArtHouse Contemporary Ltd Foundation provides artists live/work space and logistical support for the creation of a new artistic project, along with an intensive public programme that includes workshops, artist talks, and a final exhibition. The Arthouse Foundation will host two artists per session.

Residency Dates:

Spring 2016 Session | April 18 – July 22, 2016 

Fall 2016 Session | September 12 – December 16, 2016
