folio-baresiRunning all year round since 2002, the residency programme is at the heart of PACT Zollverein’s day to day work. Open to professional artists from home and abroad who work in the areas of dance, performance, media arts or music and closely linked to PACT’s two other core strands of activity in presenting work and facilitating research and development, the programme is a key element in PACT Zollverein’s profile as an Artists’ House supporting lively exchange between practice and theory. While occupying their own designated space and essentially working independently, residents may choose to take advantage of various kinds of production support such as dramaturgy, technical assistance, project management as well as press and publicity.

A residency can incorporate the following:

– Studio space [from 63 to 173 sq.m.]

– Local accommodation [maximum 6 people]

– Weekly grant allowance for all of the residency project participants [maximum group of 6 people]

– Travel costs covering one journey only per participant to and from PACT Zollverein [subject to prior agreement]

– Technical equipment [by arrangement and subject to availability]

– Stage rehearsals with professional technical supervision and support [by arrangement and subject to availability]

folio-babodleyThe Bodley Head-Financial Times Essay Prize aims to discover young talent from around the world in long-form essay writing, and has led to many new and exciting opportunities for winners and runners-up. Hedley Twidle, winner of the very first prize, is now a regular contributor to the FT and other outlets including the New Statesman. Adnan Sarwar, 2013’s winner, has written widely for the press in the UK. Edward Posnett won in 2014 for his essay ‘Eiderdown’ and has his first book, Harvest, due for publication with The Bodley Head in 2017. Last year’s winner, Laurence Blair, has also recently been signed up by The Bodley Head to write his first book, which expands on his 2015 prize-winning essay ‘Dreams of the sea’.

In the last 10 years, with the wide penetration of digital cameras with video capabilities, the environment surrounding image-making has dramatically changed. Adapting to this change, the 34th contest was reconceived, changing its name and its structure, and it continues to evolve to create new standards and provide new opportunities for discovery.

The contest is open to all, professional and amateur, regardless of age, gender or nationality.

Submission Guidelines 

Photo Entries –

  1. Image data files created with any digital device including smartphones, digital still cameras [including medium and large-format cameras].  
  2. Images that have been retouched using software or by other means will be accepted. Retouched photography using a camera app or photo editing app is also accepted.
  3. Both color and monochrome images will be accepted.
  4. File size: up to 20 MB of image data per work
  5. File format: JPEG/150 dpi recommended 
  6. The standard color space for the judging process is sRGB.

Video Entries –

  1. A video work comprising video footage and/or still images with a length of 6 to 180 seconds. 
  2. Any video-recording device may be used.  360° videos are restricted to edited works that do not rely upon a 360° video playback device or application for viewing.
  3. File size: up to 400 MB of video data at the time of submission per work. File format: MOV or MP4. 

Any music used must either be copyright-free and performed and recorded by the entrant or a person designated by the entrant or be works for which the entrant holds the copyright and for which the copyright has not been transferred to a copyright collective or other body.

The Lakecity Film Festival [LACIFF] has made a call for entries. The first edition of the three-day festival, which is to take place from December 16th to 18th in the beautiful town of Oguta, Imo State has been accepting films that will be in competition as well as screen to the public since September 24.

“This festival welcomes films from all over the globe that celebrate indigenous film irrespective of genre. LACIFF creates an environment necessary for the global cross-pollination of cultures, boosts cultural awareness and exchange in a bid to encourage filmmakers to look more inwardly and tell their individual stories through their own lenses. Hence the pay off line, ‘the reel is yours, show your story’,” he explained.

Entries will close in November.

African Student Film Festival is an annual Pan-African festival targeted at discovering, encouraging and rewarding African young film makers and helping them to get funds and grants. With six days intensive training and workshop on various film making techniques, participants will learn from participants what will make them masters of their own.

African Student Film Festival after the 2015 Edition decided to be a Traveling Pan-African Student Film Festival. The reason why we decided on this is, since ASFF is a student event, it should be held in Higher Institutions to get more students participation and involvement.

Calling for Application: International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017 IFFR Trainee Program for Young Film Critics [Funded to Rotterdam, Netherland]

wardrobes bannersssiffrInternational Film Festival Rotterdam is looking for participants for the 19th IFFR Trainee Project for Young Film Critics, taking place during its 46th edition [25 January – 5 February, 2017]. If you are a talented young film critic interested in joining this project and you meet the criteria listed below, please send us your application before Friday 4 November, 2016.

The IFFR Trainee Project for Young Film Critics, created in 1998, is IFFR talent development programme that offers up to four young [under 30 years], motivated and talented professional film critics from outside the Netherlands a chance to travel abroad, cover a major international film festivals and, in particular, get acquainted with International Film Festival Rotterdam and the broad range of independent cinema it offers.

Eligibility Requirements: 

Age under 30 years

Demonstrable experience in film criticism [print or online media] 

Not yet established enough to profit from facilities as attending international film festivals outside your country.

You get to explore all aspects of IFFR [screenings, exhibitions, Q&A sessions, and debates] as part of the program and to cover for your own media.

If your participation is successful and you have published reports that meet IFFR standards [in both quality and quantity] you get the opportunity to visit the next edition of the festival as an accredited journalist.

A motivation letter to support your application: explain why this project and the Rotterdam festival appeals to you and what you can offer the festival.

Your resume [CV] including your contact details and date of birth.

Up to three proofs of recent work you published on [independent] film or film festivals. If not in English, provide the original articles with English translations to demonstrate your command of this language.

Information about your affiliation[s]: title, name of chief editor, postal address, phone number, email account, periodicity, circulation, web address, estimated unique page views per month.

A recommendation letter [on company letterhead] of your principal affiliation’s chief editor assigning you to cover IFFR 2016 and confirming that your report will be published.
