After his first year in the University, Abiola lost his dad. He immediately inherited the responsibility of providing leadership for his four younger siblings and mother. Life definitely didn’t remain the same for him as he had to surmount the challenges of financing himself through school while also playing fatherhood role even when he needed a father too. At that time, he experienced several episodes of going hungry to pay school fees, purchase educational materials while also seeing to the wellbeing of his family. Despite all these, he graduated as one of the top students in his class.
Abiola Salami served in a Non-Governmental Organization to Health Maintenance Organization before working in the Banking industry and IT where he became a Manager at the age of 28 years. He has always being a catalyst for productivity both in social and corporate circles. He lost his job in the NGO because of his determination not to allow his needs to turn to greed. According to him “My Boss at that time wanted me to be her accomplice in defrauding the organisation but I carefully refused. Not because I didn’t need the money but because that money cannot wash my conscience clean.”
Abiola Salami wrote a book called “Get MAD”- an inspirational book that draws examples from several real life situations and true personal stories. Get MAD! is a call to be a Champion by making the necessary positive changes in our personal, corporate and communal lives. The book was internationally published and the foreword was written by Dr Christopher Kolade, a global and well respected corporate leader and diplomat.
Abiola’s speeches inspire youths and adults to get MAD and take control of their future.
Abiola Salami has hosted several youth empowerment initiatives across different schools and communities in Nigeria equipping young Nigerians with timeless leadership principles that will help them become champions as they take personal responsibility for national productivity.
His interest in Women Empowerment has seen him host and facilitate women empowerment sessions with the likes of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a well respected Woman Politican; Mrs Mo Abudu, Africa’s #1 TV Show host and Media Entrepreneur; Mrs Uchenna Erobu, the first female Partner in Akintola Williams-Deloitte, Africa’s #1 Indigenous Accounting firm; Mrs Mavi Isibor, Group CEO Poise Group; Mrs Laila St Mathew Daniel, International Life Therapist and other first rate women in Nigeria. He is the Convener of The Senior Professional Ladies’ Colloquium.
As an internationally certified communication coach by Toastmasters International, UK Certified Life Coach and student of international icons such as Les Brown, John C. Maxwell and others, he facilitates several training and coaching sessions for executives in public and private sector organisations in Nigeria.
He is the Convener of Africa’s #1 Conference on Workforce Productivity-GAME-where he has hosted the likes of Dr. Christopher Kolade, Prof Pat Utomi, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Mr. Jimi Awosika, Sir Ademola Aladekomo and other first rate corporate leaders.
Abiola presently holds an inspirational programs on Metro FM 97.7 on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays with growing listenership across nine states in Nigeria. Abiola also hosts a monthly Professional Development Program where he empowers professionals to become Most Valuable Players in their organisations.
